John was baptized at the Greek Catholic Ruthenian Church, New Britain, CT, 6 Aug. 1916. He married Mary Bodziach on 18 May 1940.

John S. Kablesh, 88, of Berlin Street, Southington, died April 17, 2005, at the home of his daughter, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Mary (Bodziach) Kablesh.

Born in Terryville on Aug. 4, 1916, the son of the late Sedor and Anna (Stawiska) Kablesh, he was a longtime Southington resident and was affectionately known to many as 'Grandpa John.' He was the owner of the former Winston Shoes in Meriden for 30 years. Mr. Kablesh was a veteran of World War II, having served his country in the U.S. Army Company D, 1st Battalion, 329th Infantry Regiment of the 83rd Thunderbird Division in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a life member and past commander of the American Legion Post 72 Southington for 59 years, a life member of the Southington VFW, and a proud supporter of American Legion Baseball. He was a Communicant of Immaculate Conception Church, a member of the Southington 40/8, and of the Calendar House.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Sheilah and Edward Tycz, Sharon and Les Zimmer, all of Southington, Cynthia DeMauro of California, and Jason Kablesh of Massachusetts; six grandchildren, Pamela Sartori, Daniel Tycz, Christine Robarge, Kevin Zimmer, Tamra Smith, and Nicole Habegger; six great-grandchildren, Keith and Kasey Lebel, Rachel and Ryan Sartori, Emily Tycz, and Wyatt Jon Smith; a sister, Lovey Kowaleski of Terryville; a close friend, Anthony 'Maxie' Blaszczyk of Southington; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 23, at 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday, April 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, Mr. Kablesh requested that donations be made to the American Legion Post 72 Baseball, 66 Main St., Southington, CT 06489.
