Johannes and his brother Michael were 2 of the first settlers in Garrett County, Maryland . Johannes lived to be 105 years old.

Johannes settled in what is now Garrett County, Maryland when the military lots were surveyed westward of Fort Cumberland in 1787. Johannes crossed the Potomac River from Hampshire County, Virginia about 1785. Johannas was allotted as a settler military lot 261 and 262. These lots were on the bend of the Potomac River near Polly Run (now Folly run). These military lots were thought to be the old John Dixon farm by the descendants of Johannes. On the assessment roll of Glades Hundred for 1798 he is assessed with 2 military lots. Johannes abandoned or sold his first settlement and permanently settled on the Potomac. North East of Folly run (now Windom), which was deeded to him for $100 by Martin Stempe. Lot 69 is on the Maryland side of the Potomac at Windom of the North Branch of the Potomac. One the assessment roll of 1804 thu 1812, Stoney Point (lot 69) was assessed to Johannes Paugh. In 1825 Honis Paugh deeded lot 69 to his son John W. Paugh. In 1833 lot 69 was assessed to John Paugh.
