Mary Sweet was born on February 10, 1692 in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. Her parents were Henry and Mary Andrews Sweet. She married her cousin, James Sweet, about 1715, probably in East Greenwich. James was made freeman in 1726. James bought land in Coventry, Kent County, Rhode Island in 1747 and likely moved his family there at that time. James died in Coventry in 1759. Mary was alive two years later, when, with her son Caleb, she deeded some land to John Fox of Coventry. The exact date and location of her death are not known. She is probably buried with her husband and his family in the Sweet-Tripp Lot, which is part of the larger Rhode Island Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, Washington Coounty.
