His funeral will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Prospect Baptist Church, Albemarle, with Revs. Stoney Benfield and Dr. Darrell Huneycutt officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM prior to the ceremony in the Worship Center.
Born September 15, 1927, in Stanly County, he was the son of the late Duma Ray Morris and Fannie Bost Morris.
He was a retired employee of Wiscassett Mills. He enjoyed wood-working, walking, gardening, and spending time with his family.
In addition to being a lifetime member of Prospect Baptist Church, he sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, served numerous terms as deacon and financial secretary, and was a leader of the Royal Ambassadors.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II and was a fireman with the Bethany Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jewel Davis Morris. Survivors also include two devoted daughters, Deborah Morris Ballentine and husband Sid of Blythewood, S.C. and Cynthia Morris Baucom and husband Steve of Albemarle; four grandchildren, Dana Ballentine Coon and husband Jason, Erica Baucom Coble and husband David, Sara Ballentine Jackson and husband Kyle, and Phillip Baucom and wife Jennifer Wilder Baucom; and four great-grandchildren, Olivia Coble, Camden Coble, Kayda Baucom and Grayson Coon. He is also survived by a brother, Donald and wife Rubye and nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, brothers Johnny and Byron, and sister Winola.
