A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Jefferson Street Christian Church with his son, Kevin Mote officiating. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post # 263 of Lincoln. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of the service on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at a later date at Zion Cemetery in Lincoln. Cremation rites have been accorded.
The family has entrusted his arrangements to the Peasley Funeral Home.
David L. Mote was born on May 5, 1943, in Lincoln, the son of Herbert William and Marjorie Alexander Mote. He married Mary C. Agent on April 24, 1964, in Lincoln. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Angela (James) Mote Stewart and Kevin Mote; six grandchildren, Matthew English, Katelyn Stewart, Mikayla Stewart, Tyler Stewart, Taylor Mote and Emaleigh Mote and his siblings, Patricia Emmons, Ronald Mote, Myra Gleason, Gayla (Jim) Wright, William (Vickie) Mote, Kathleen (Max) McCoy and Rodney (Laura) Mote.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Margaret Ann Grimsley and Doris Delany.
David graduated from the Lincoln Community High School in 1962. He then join the Air National Guard.
He retired from the Illinois Department of Corrections in 2003 as a Correctional Officer. He was a member of the Jefferson Christian Church in Lincoln. He was a man of faith and integrity who was loved by his family and many friends.
