GREENSBORO - Mr. James Melvin Raynor, 98, formerly of 2302 West Market Street in Greensboro, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2008, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at George Brothers Funeral Service. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
Mr. Raynor was born January 1, 1910, in Linden, N.C., to the late James G. Raynor and Neaila Wood Raynor. He graduated from Linden High School and owned and operated Raynor's Barbershop on Walker Avenue in Greensboro for 40 years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Masonic Revolution Lodge # 552 and a member of First Baptist Church for over 50 years. Mr. Raynor was also an avid fisherman and quail hunter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lora Emerson Raynor; son, David B. Raynor; brothers, Marvin, Leo, Alton and Jarvis Raynor and an infant sister.
Mr. Raynor is survived by his son, Don Raynor and wife, Milly of Whitsett; brothers, Stacey Raynor of Linden and Ellis Raynor of Dillon, S.C.; four grandchildren, Scott Raynor of Salt Lake City, Utah, Ciri Fenzel of Fort Knox, Ky., Ana Watson of Greensboro and Jessica Raynor of Raleigh, N.C.; and three great grandchildren, Preston B. Raynor, Sydney K. Watson and Luke Emerson Fenzel.
