Chico Record, Sunday Morning, February 28, 1915, pg 4 col 4: John S. Akin, Pioneer, Is Dead. John S. Akin, a pioneer resident of Butte county, died at his home, 916 Eighth street, from Bright’s disease and the infirmities of old age late yesterday afternoon, Akin was seventy-five years old.
Akin was born in Albany, N.Y., November 3, 1840. He came to Butte county in 1860 and had resided here since, living a great part of the time in Chico.
From 1900 until 1908 he was sexton at the Chico cemetery. He was well known in this county and leaves a large number of friends to mourn his death.
One son, John W. Akin of Chico, survives. The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock and interment will be made in Chico cemetery.

73-year-old [sic: 75] John Steward [sic: Seward] Akin was interred, per the Chico Cemetery Association Records, in the plot noted, on March 2, 1915.
