Mary "Polly" Barclay was the daughter of Hugh Barclay and Mary Culbertson. She was born in ABOUT 1754. She married Thomas Alexander Paxton on 5 Jul 1774,* in Botetourt Co., VA.

After she became a widow, she married second to Alexander Culbertson, on 5 Mar 1799, in Rockbridge County, Virginia. Alexander T Barclay & Nancy Poague, had Hugh Barclay, Sr., died 1806, had daughter Polly. Oren F Morton's History of Rockbridge Co., VA, Staunton, VA, 1920.

Thomas Paxton, the son of John Paxton and Phoebe Alexander, was born in Ireland in 1719, died in Rockbridge Co., VA on 27 Sep 1788. 1st married Elizabeth McClung, 1724- 3 Mar 1773. Widowed, he married Mary Barclay, on "17 Jun" 1774*, she died on 1 Sep 1828. Her husband Thomas's will dated 13 Sep 1788, probated 2 Dec 1788, lists children John, Samuel, Wm, James, Thomas, Sarah and Mary, leaving them $25 each. Plus children Joseph (homeplace, livestock, etc.); Hugh (farm); Isaac (170 acres in VA & KY land); Hannah (cash); Elizabeth (horse & cash); Hugh, David & Isaac (horse each). He leaves Mary her share in clothing, plus a negro, $250 in furniture and maintenance out of the the home plantation, during her widowhood. To his unborn child (Mary's child), he leaves an unborn negro. The remainder of the estate to his last wife's (Mary) children. Mary was an executor, along with son Samuel Paxton and David Edmondson. Widowed, Mary married James Wood, who died 28 Jan 1817.
