Actor. He was a romantic leading man in the early silent era and played authority figures in talkies. Warwick's dignified bearing was well-spoofed in six films by writer-director Preston Sturges. His credits include "Alias Jimmy Valentine" (1915), "Hell Hath No Fury" (1917), "The Mad Lover" (1917), "The Spitfire" (1924), "Doctor X" (1932), "I Am a Fugitive From a Chain Gang" (1932), "Cleopatra" (1934), "Anna Karenina" (1935), "A Tale of Two Cities" (1935), "Romeo and Juliet" (1936), "The Prince and the Pauper" (1937), "The Life of Emile Zola" (1937), "The Awful Truth" (1937), "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (1938), "The Sea Hawk" (1940), "The Great McGinty" (1940), "Christmas in July" (1940), "The Lady Eve" (1941), "Sullivan's Travels" (1941), "The Palm Beach Story" (1942), "Hail the Conquering Hero" (1944), "Gentleman's Agreement" (1947), "The Three Musketeers" (1948), "The Adventures of Don Juan" (1949), "Impact" (1949), "In a Lonely Place" (1950), "While the City Sleeps" (1956), and "The Buccaneer" (1958). Warwick was born Robert Taylor Bein in Sacramento, California. He trained as an opera singer in Paris but became a matinee idol on Broadway instead, making his screen debut in 1914. His career was interrupted by World War I service (1917 to 1919). Warwick appeared in 200 films and over 40 TV shows, and was active until a year before his death at 85.
