LARNED -- Dale Kenneth Howell, 88 died July 1, 1997, at the Healthcare and Living Center.
He was born March 24, 1909, at Sterling, the son of Fred M. and Mertle Farney Howell. He was a retired owner of a service station, a car agency, a bulk-fuel plant and service company, worked at Larned State Hospital, managed Vernon Memorial Funeral Home and farmed.
He belonged to Larned United Methodist Church and the Larned Kiwanis Club since 1943, with 45 years' perfect attendance, the Masonic Lodge, Great Bend, and was a past member of the shrine Lodge, Wichita.
On Aug. 7, 1933, he married Vera G. Arnold at Kinsley. She died Sept. 12, 1991.
Survivors include: a son, Don E., Castle Rock, Colo., two brothers, Wayne, Larned, and Weldon, St. John; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dale K. Jr.; two brothers, Fred and Clifford; and two sisters Cleta Lyon and Velda Patrick.
Funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Morell Funeral Home, Larned, with the Rev. Charles Grant presiding. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and noon to service time Saturday, all at the funeral home. Burial will be in Larned Cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to the Larned Kiwanis Club for Youth Activities in care of the funeral home.
