GASTONIA ~ Donald L Stacy, 90, of Covenant Village, died on Sept. 28, at his residence.

Don was born in Gastonia, January 11, 1923. He attended West School, Gastonia High School, and Evans Business College. He was formerly a member of West End Methodist Church.

He is a member of First Baptist Church, Gastonia, where he served on the Diaconate, the greeting committee and as a member of Jeff Worley's Sunday School Class. He served the Boy Scouts for 11 years and finished as Scout Master of Troop 6. In addition, he served as church clerk for 30 years. He did volunteer service at Crisis Assistance Ministry and the Health Center of Covenant Village.

He is a Past Master of Holland Memorial Masonic Lodge and a member of The Scottish Rites and Oasis Shrine of Charlotte NC for more than 62 years.

Serving as a 1st Sergeant with the 1903rd Army Engineers Aviation Battalion, Don built runways in the South Pacific on Ie Shima and Okinawa, Japan during WWII. He was formerly employed with Warren Gardner's Men Shops, Adventure Knits, M & M Fabrics and was retired from Rhyne Floral Supply.

He was the son of Carrie Shattles Stacy and Claud Hartsell Stacy.

He is survived by a son Mike Stacy & wife Sherry; Granddaughter Kim Stacy, Grandson Bryan Stacy & wife Nikki; Great Granddaughters Madison and Samantha Stacy; Nieces Betty Kirby, Claudette Kayler & husband Rev. Jack Kayler, Patty Margerison & husband Ken and Loretta Stacy Slaton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Harris Stacy and his son Donald L Stacy Jr; brothers Leonard Stacy, Claud Stacy & wife Cola Mae; sisters Chloe Hatcher & husband Bailey, Delona Taylor & husband Claude, Dealva Jacobs & husband Hobson.

Family and friends of Donald Stacy are invited to attend his memorial service beginning at 3:00 PM Tuesday, October 1 from the Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia with the Rev. Dr. Ray Ammons and the Rev. Dr. Joan Martin officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. The family will also receive friends from 3:00 PM until 4:30 PM on Monday, September 30 at Covenant Village. Burial will be private at Gaston Memorial Park

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church, PO Box 6298, Gastonia NC 28056, Crisis Assistance Ministry, 805 W Airline Ave, Gastonia NC 28052, or Covenant Village Christmas Fund, 1351 Robinwood Road, Gastonia NC 28054.
