Harold was born in Moorhead, Iowa, on March 5, 1929, to Louis and LaVonne Baeth. He graduated from Moorhead High School and Graceland College at Lamoni, obtained his B.S. at the University of Northern Iowa and masters degree from Drake.
He taught in Moorhead, Soldier and Bayard schools with the last 42 years in the Des Moines school system. He was a retired gym teacher, swimming coach and guidance counselor with East High School. Harold also worked as a crop adjuster for State Farm Insurance.
A long-time high school swimming and basketball official, he was a member of the Iowa State High School Athletic Association Officials Hall of Fame. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Harold shared his vocal talent by participating in the church choir, quartet, and barbershop groups in the area.
Surviving are his wife, Beverly; son Kenneth of Des Moines; daughter Jeanne and husband, Mark Haydon, a brother Ron Baeth and wife Jan, both of Des Moines; two sisters Beverly Blaum of Phoenix and Joanne Pedersen and husband Charles of Clive; grandchildren, Emily and Mathew Haydon, and Austin and Lauren Baeth, all of West Des Moines; Uncle and Aunt Wilbur and Leone Mann, of Moorhead, nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in deathy by his parents.
A memorial service was held July 2, 1999, in Des Moines at the Douglas Ave. Presbyterian Church with interment at Rest Have Cemetery.
