Woman Grill Operator Dies

MANITOWOC—
Mrs. Max Wellhoefer of 1232 S. 14th St., who for many years operated Wellhoefer Grill, died early Sunday morning at Holy Family Hospital. Mrs. Wellhoefer, 65, had been hospitalized six weeks.

Since the death of Max G. Wellhoefer, to whom she was married Oct. 30, 1912, Mrs. Wellhoefer as owner operated the grill with two sons, Howard and Robert. Mr. Wellhoefer died Nov. 9, 1954. Mr. and Mrs. Wellhoefer took over the business in 1943 on the death of Hugo Wellhoefer, a brother. The grill was established in 1925.

Mrs. Wellhoefer, nee Clara Herman, was born in this city Oct. 5, 1893, daughter of the late Benedict and Walburga Hook Herman. She was a member of St. Ann Society of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Altrusa Society, United Commercial Travelers, ?? Club Auxiliary, City ??makers, Wisconsin Restaurant Assn, a charter member of Manitowoc Eagles Aerie Auxiliary and a member of Drews-Bleser American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Lyman Elliott of Iron Mountain, Mich., and Mrs. Robert King and Mrs. Allen Kortas of this city; two sons, Howard and Robert; a sister, Mrs. Gus Youngwall of the city; and 12 grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Jane Marie Murphy, died Feb 6, 1956, and a son, Max, in infancy.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church. The Rev. Alfred Pritzl will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home where the Rosary will be recited at 7 o’clock this Monday evening.

Max Wellhoefer and Miss Herman Joined in Wedlock


St. Boniface was the scene of the wedding of Miss Clara Hermman and Max Wellhoefer, well known South side young people at 9 this morning, the ceremony being attended by many friends of the young couple. Misses Ada Pellett and Hortense Wellhoefer attended the bride and Walter Stanzel and Herbert Plantico were groomsmen.

A wedding breakfast was served at the home of the bride's parents following the ceremony and the couple later departed for Chicago for a honeymoon after which they will reside at Clintonville where Mr. Wellhoefer is engaged as a carpenter contractor.

The bride is a daughter of Benedict Herman and is a bright and popular girl.
