Dr. Craig Glenn Gunter, born on August 28, 1920 in Winnipeg, Canada to Alvin Guy Gunter and Frieda Anna Hamel. He passed away on August 20, 2005.

Craig dedicated much of his life to education and teaching and was a loving and dedicated husband and father. He was raised in Rockford, IL, and went on to the Univ. of Illinois at Urbana, where he graduated in 1943 with a B.A. in history and political science. He began his teaching career at St. John's Military Academy, Delafield, WI. Thereafter, he received a M.S. degree in political science at the Univ. of WI in 1948. He earned a second M.S. degree in counseling in 1957 from WI. Successively, he taught in a number of military schools and academies. He graduated from WA State Univ. in 1964, with a Doctor of Education degree in higher education and political science. He taught in several other institutions of higher education, including, the Univ. of Puget Sound, Tacoma, where he taught for 17 years. After semi-retirement, he continued to teach part-time at Pierce College extension centers and for Central WA Univ.

His interests included genealogical research, antiques, old houses, historic preservation, classical music, and decorative arts. He was a member of St. Alban's Anglican Church for many years where he served as a sub deacon. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims, the Society of the Descendants of the Colonial Clergy and the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts. He served for many years in Civil Air Patrol.

Craig is survived by his wife Margaret Leuning Gunter and his daughters Suzanne Gunter (Robert) Coit, Nancy Gunter (Dale) Wilson, Jeanne Gunter, his grandchildren, Elizabeth Lynn Coit, Kyle Gunter Coit, Alexander Gunter Wilson, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Al and his sister Doris. Services were held at New Tacoma Cemetery.
