Giles Coleman Raymer died September 17 at his home at 1103 Avenue F. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 20, at 11:30 a.m. from the Seaside Hughes-Ransom mortuary. Entombment will be at Riverside Abby, Portland, at 3:30 pm.
Raymer was born July 25, 1895, in Nashville, Tenn., and received his elementary school education in Texhoma, Texas. He came with his family to Portland and completed his education at Benson high school. He worked on the construction of Multnomah bridge and for the Shay Construction company for several years. He was a machinist-engineer on Bonneville Dam construction and then was machinist-superintendent for the Northern Pacific Railroad terminal in Portland for 18 years. He retired in 1965. He had lived in Seaside and Portland for ten years and here exclusively the last four years.
He was a member of the Portland Elks Lodge, the Seaside American Legion and the Seaside Moose Lodge.
Raymer and Grace S. Hendrickson were married June 22, 1963, in Seaside. She survives him. Other survivors are three son's, Arthur and Leo, Vancouver, Wash., and Joe, Portland; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Elsie) Hayes, Redondo Beach, Calif., Mrs. Harold (Mary) Cox and Mrs. Audrey Hansen, Vancouver, Wash.; three sisters, Mrs. B.C. Yancy, Casa Grande, Ariz., Mrs. “Son” Jones, Ada, Okla., and Mrs. Fran Metzger, Arcada, Calif.; two brothers, Dewey, Peru, Ark., and Melvin, Liberal, Kans., 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Randall Olson, Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, conducted the services. Pallbearers were Arthur, Joe and Leo Raymer, David Hendrickson, Stanley Hill, Carl Noeske, Frank Porter, Bill Harper and Glenn Cooper.
