Clarence I. Perkins, 83, of Washington, NC, formerly a resident of Howell for 25 years, died Monday, September 10, 2012 at Rivertrace of Washington. Clarence was born on March 11, 1929, in Richfield Township, Genesee County, Michigan, to Clifford and Mildred Crawford Perkins. On April 15, 1950, he married Mildred Dudeck, who preceded him in death on December 17, 2003. Clarence worked for the Bell Telephone Company before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He served 35 years in the service, which included three tours in Vietnam. He rose to the rank of Sergeant Major. After retiring from the Marine Corps, he worked for the Naval Air Rework Facility at MCAS Cherry Point, NC. Clarence was a member and past president of the Fleet Reserve Association of Havelock, NC, and was also a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Havelock.
