Arlene May Blake, age 95, of Aurora, Il, formerly of Yorkville, IL, passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2005 at Plum Landing in Aurora, IL. She was born on March 9, 1910 in Neponset, IL, the daughter of James and Jane "Jenny" (Hill) Montooth.
Mrs. Blake was united in marriage on November 28, 1935 in Joliet, IL to Mr. Ralph Blake and they spent the next 69 years together. She was a member of the Yorkville United Methodist Church in Yorkville, IL. Arlene was for many years a teacher at P.H. Miller School in Plano, IL. She was a Sunday School Teacher in the Yorkville area. Mrs. Blake enjoyed ceramics and traveling. She was a Girl Scout Leader who loved the outdoors. Arlene conceived of and helped initiate Yorkville's Fourth of July celebration, which continues to live on today. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and aunt, who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph Blake of Aurora, Il; her five children, Linda Blake of Washington, D.C., Carol (Gene) Sheeley of Yorkville, IL, James (Gail) Blake of Deland, FL, Anita Blake of Aurora, IL and Merry Blake of Freeport, IL; her six grandchildren, Mathew (Carey) Blake of Fine's Creek, NC, Arlene Deevers of Mims, FL, Maureen (Steve) Bryson of Union Grove, WI, James (Maria) Kantor of St. Charles, MO, Megan (Kurt) Gessler of Yorkville, IL and Darrell T. Blake of New Orleans, LA; her six great-grandchildren; her great-great-grandson; her brother, Marvin (Mary) Montooth of Concord, CA; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Jenny Montooth; her foster daughter, Julia Finley; her son-in-law, James C. Kantor; a brother; and two sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 410 E. Countryside Parkway, Yorkville, IL. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery, Yorkville, IL. Friends may call from 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, Yorkville, IL.
