WWI veteran. Son of Jacob Herman Berg and Anna Pilas. Carl married Ida Elvira Stappans on September 2, 1911 in Gardner. He was a wheelmaker at the time. The record was filed under the name Charles Alfred Berg. The Rev. Karl A. Martin officiated the ceremony,

Carl registered for the draft during the World War on June 5, 1917. His home address was 15 Barthel Avenue in Gardner. His birth date and location were entered as: July 23, 1888 at Wasa, Len, Finland. The registrar described him as having both medium height and build with blue eyes and black hair. He was employed as a machinist for the Simplex Time Recorder Company of Gardner.

After serving in the World War Mr. Berg became a naturalized U. S. citizen on June 30, 1919.

In the 1920 U. S. census Carl, 31, listed as Alfred Carl, and his wife, Ida, 30, were counted at their apartment at 27 Robillard Street in Gardner. Mr. Berg was still at Simplex. He immigrated to this country in 1906. Ida reportedly arrived in 1909.

By 1930 the Bergs had bought their own home at 12 Wickman Drive which is just around the corner from their last place. Carl had a new job as an iron worker at a chair factory.

Ida and Carl divorced sometime before 1940 when he was enumerated at his sister Ida Klockars' home at 64 Harvard Street in Gardner. Mr. Berg was employed as an elevator man at a chair shop.

A U. S. Veterans Administration Master Index Card for Carl was found. It listed his address as 66 Leamy Street in Gardner. He enlisted on November 23, 1917 and was discharged on July 12, 1919. His unit was entered as Hdq Demob Gr Det #4.
