A lifelong resident of Walton County, Mr. Pannell was born on July 11, 1948, to Willie Guy and Edith Elder Pannell.
He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service for 18 years and later worked for Jennings Mill and Cedar Lakes Golf Courses. Affectionately known by this family as "Pa," Mr. Pannell especially enjoyed gardening and teaching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren a love for tilling the land.
Mr. Pannell was preceded in death by his brother, Guy Pannell. Survivors include his wife, Robin Pannell; sons, Brad Pannell, Jamie (Stephanie) Pannell, Jeremy (Crystal) Pannell, Justin Pannell, and Jason Pannell; daughters, Melanie (Mitch) Bradberry, Nedda (Jeremy) Vogel, Karrie (Monrikta) Atkinson, and Mary Ryann (B.J.) Ivie; sisters, Lunell (the late Everett) Jones, Catherine (Bob) Queen, Dean (the late Edward) Farmer, Linda (Ben) Davis, Sherry (Horace) Malcom, Teresa (Billy) Patterson, and Jane (Keith) Quick; brothers, Nathan (Pat) Pannell and Sam (Elaine) Pannell; 16 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 27, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, at High Shoals Christian Church, with the Rev. Jeff Thomas officiating. Interment will be at the Thomas Family Cemetery.
