Ruth Robinson Pickett 1895-1983
Md: Jul 27 1916 in Chicago, Cook Co, IL
Jarrell Waskom and Ruth Pickett had 4 children - all were born and raised in India.

Pickett was enrolled at Asbury College and graduated in 1907 at the age of seventeen. After college, he taught Greek at Arkansas Holiness College in Villonia, Arkansas, and at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana. In 1910, well-known missionary and college classmate E. Stanley Jones wanted Pickett to come to India to replace him as pastor of a Methodist church there. In 1911, in Lucknow, India, Pickett was ordained into the ministry as an elder in the Methodist Church. That connection would lead to 46 years of ministry in India; he served as a pastor, district superintendant, editor of the Indian Witness, and bishop of the Methodist Church in India.

During his time in India, he became personal friends of Jawahirial Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, and Mahatma Gandhi.

While working in India, Pickett met Ruth Robinson, daughter of John Wesley Robinson, a Methodist bishop for Southern Asia. Ruth returned to Chicago, IL in 1916 and graduated from Northwestern University. They were married later that summer.

When the Pickett's returned to India, they assumed leadership of a boy's school in Arrah, India. Their four children were born in India.

In 1935, Pickett was consecrated a Methodist Bishop by the Central Conference of Southern Asia. He provided leadership for the Methodist Church until he retired from the missionary field in 1956. They moved back to the United States and he accepted a teaching position at Boston University's School of Theology.

Pickett wrote eight books, the most influential of which was Christian Mass Movements in India.
