Joseph is my G-G-G-Grandfather and the man who brought my family to America.
He may have been born in Canada or possibly France.
His father Benoit was a Sergeant in the Suisse Regiment de Meuron in the war of 1812 who settled in Canada and possibly returned to Europe at some point.
Joseph married a Huron woman named Eunice and moved to New York where many of his descendants live to this day.
Please contact me if you have any more information about Joseph, Eunice or Benoit.
The poem on the stone reads:
Dearest father, thou hast left us,
Here thy loss we deeply feel;
But 'tis God that has bereft us,
He can all our sorrows heal.
