Barbara was born in Milan, Michigan, and lived in Canton. Her family moved to Detroit in 1927 and owned and managed Maynard's Drug Store on Oakwood Boulevard near the Ford Rouge plant. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Plymouth. She was a longtime member of the Plymouth Republican Party and the Livonia/Plymouth Republican Women's Club. She was known for her commitment to family, civic and church affairs. She died of respiratory failure at St Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. Survivors include her daughter, Anne, and sons Tim, Jim, Mark and Paul.
