Geneva Champion Blackwelder, 88, of Valley Nursing Home in Taylorsville, died March 3, 2006, at Catawba Valley Medical Center after several months of declining health.


Born June 7, 1917, in Shelby, she was the daughter of the late Brood and Lula Nauman Champion.


She was retired from Burke County, where she served as a public health nurse.


She was a US Army veteran of WW II, serving as a nurse.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, A.B. Blackwelder.


She is survived by two daughters, a son, of Hickory; a grandson, and two brothers.


The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 6, 2006, at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel.


Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.


The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.


Hickory Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
