Jacob Daniel Murphy, 19, of Nampa died at a local hospital on March 2, 2005, after a brief illness. Jacob was born on Oct. 16, 1985 in Monroeville, Pa. He had a difficult birth and was challenged by a variety of physical disabilities and medical problems. Compounding these difficulties was the fact that he did not have a family. This changed in 1991 when, at age 5, Jacob met his forever family. On April 14, 1991 Pierce and Mary Anne Murphy and their children welcomed Jacob into their home. On July 22, 1993 Jacob´s adoption was finalized, and he had the assurance of parents and siblings forever. Shortly after his adoption, Jacob and his family moved to Boise to enjoy the presence of grandparents and extended family. Jacob was home-educated during his elementary school years; then he attended local public schools. During this time, with the help of his counselor Sandy Hall, Dr. William Terry, and his entire family, Jacob addressed the emotional challenges he faced. In August of 2000 Jacob moved to the Idaho State School and Hospital in Nampa. There he continued to receive the services and help he needed. He attended Nampa High School and was preparing to graduate this coming spring. Throughout his life, Jacob passionately loved roller coasters. He read widely on the subject and was an expert on the world´s famous extreme coasters. Jacob enjoyed computer simulation games, especially Sim Coaster and Roller Coaster Tycoon. Jacob developed a strong interest in geography as well. He loved to read, and much of his pleasure reading involved topics related to this subject. Despite having cerebral palsy, Jacob liked to bowl. Jacob was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in southeast Boise. He was loved and supported by this Catholic faith community. It was here that he met his dear friend Dr. Julie Phister, who preceded him in death. As Jacob´s family we want to thank all those who helped Jacob throughout his life. In particular we are grateful to Sandy Hall, Dr. William Terry, Dr. Adrian Curnow, Theresa Cotner, Jess Boeder, Beth Gribble and the staff at Region IV Health and Welfare, and the staff at the Idaho State School and Hospital, including Clare Barrett, Tim Deck, Felix Diaz, and Heidi Matthews. We are grateful to Dr. Reese Verner and the medical staff at St. Luke´s Meridian for the care they gave our son. Jacob is survived by his parents Pierce and Mary Anne Murphy of Boise, his siblings Nathan, Eric, Mary Clare, Peter, Therese, Sarah, and Liam, his maternal grandmother Elizabeth Swoyer, his paternal grandparents Jerry and Charlotte Murphy, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Joseph Swoyer. Jacob, we admire your courage and fortitude. We love you. We miss you. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Dennis Wassmuth at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 7, 2005 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 1500 E. Wright, Boise. Burial at Morris Hill Cemetery will immediately follow. Arrangements are by Summers Funeral Home, Boise.
