He was born June 3, 1933, in Iroquois, the son of Lawrence and Selma Simmons. Lewie served his country in the U.S. Army and after his return he married the former Marilyn Ponton in L'Erable on June 4, 1955. He went on to work as a machine operator for General Foods Corp. for 32 years, retiring in 1988. Lewie enjoyed spending time playing cards, and spending time with family, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lewie is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of Bourbonnais; his children, Peggy Lane, of Bonfield, Nancy (Terry) Cocklin, of Sparks, Nev., Michael (Paula) Simmons, of Bourbonnais, Robert Simmons, of Bonfield, and Patti (Mike) Williams, of Kankakee; grandchildren, Jeremy Simmons, Jeanine Raines, Brandi Knowles, Angie Garska, Bev Eastman, Adam, Joshua and Amanda Simmons, Jacki Simmons-Camp, Angie, Amy, Andrew and Alex Williams; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Simmons; a granddaughter, Dana Lane; his parents; a sister, Doris Poe; and brothers, Robert, George, Frances and Bill Simmons.
Interment will follow at Kankakee Memorial Gardens, Aroma Township.
