Army Sgt. Conneway was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, Georgia. Conneway was traveling in a government vehicle when an explosive device detonated and struck the vehicle on June 26 in Baghdad. He died from cardiac arrest two days later as he was being loaded onto a plane for a hospital in Germany. Tim was a Junior ROTC star in high school - following his grandfather, father and brother into military service. He had a great personality and an ability to deal with others. He was always energetic and wanting to do things. He was a guy with a military image and fit all the credentials of a soldier at a young age. Conneway volunteered for Army service on June 15, 1999. He completed basic training and advanced individual training in the military operational specialty of infantryman at Fort Benning, Georgia. Conneway continued his military training at Fort Benning when he attended Airborne School and then the Ranger Indoctrination Program. On January 27, 2000, he was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. He earned his Ranger Tab after graduating from the U.S. Army Ranger Course. He also completed the Primary Leadership Development Course. Conneway was a rifleman, grenadier, machine gunner and team leader with Company B, 3rd Battalion. He was posthumously awarded Bronze Star for Valor, Purple Heart and Meritorious Service medals. His other awards and decorations include two Army Commendation Medals, the Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, two Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment Shoulder Sleeve Insignia and Ranger Tab. He earned the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and Parachutist Badge with Bronze Service Star in Afghanistan.
