CIVIL WAR
Charles O Doty was born in in Steuben County, New York in 1844 (exact birth date not known) . He was the youngest child of Amasa Doty and Sarah Matthews. Within a few years of his birth the family moved to Calhoun County, Michigan. Charles Doty enlisted in the army at Kalamazoo, Michigan on January 15, 1862 and was discharged on January 15, 1865. His brother, William, entered and was discharged at essentially the same time. Corporal Charles Doty and his brother were in the 15th Regiment, 2nd Battalion, Co. A/D.

He was married to Eva Belinda Whitaker, daughter of Alpheus and Rhoda Whitaker, in Marshall, Michigan on 25 April 1869 by D.W. Moore, minister. They had three daughters. One had no children. The other two have living descendants. His wife was living in Battle Creek, where he had been a blacksmith, at the time of his death and continued to live there for some time after his death. Eva likely died in 1918 in California and most likely would be buried there. Similarly, the 3 daughters also died on the West Coast. His father is buried in the poor farm cemetery and while his mother's burial isn't known it was in a different town.
