Cumberland, MD - Floyd "Pete" Shannon Elliott, 87, of Cumberland, MD, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2013, at his home.
Born April 9, 1926, in Centerville, PA, Pete was the son of the late Floyd Francis Elliott and Ora Victoria (Slick) Elliott.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law: Diane Elliott; two sisters: Dorothy Youngblood and Gwendolyn "Tootie" Weaverling; and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
A graduate of Bedford High School, Class of 1944, Pete was a United States Marine Corps Veteran of World War II and retired from the Columbia Gas Company. He played baseball with the Pen Mar League, the Romney Rockets, the Rocking Chair League, and numerous other local softball teams in the area. Pete refereed basketball for high school and college levels for many years. He was past President of the church league and the Hot Stove League. Pete served on the Cumberland City Council for 21 years, served as President of the Cumberland Neighborhood Housing Authority for 30 years, and was the past chaplain for the Henry Hart Post #1411 V.F.W. He was a member of the Park Place United Methodist Church; the Fort Cumberland Post #13 American Legion; the Goodfellowship Club; and the Mountainside Marines. He was State Past President of the Maryland Municipal League (MML) and received the MML Lifetime Achievement Award in June 2013 at the Convention Center in Ocean City, MD.
Pete is survived by his wife: E. Louise (Lowery) Elliott, celebrating 64 years of marriage on August 27, 2013. He also leaves behind his children: Linda Carlomany and her companion, Mike Kirsch, Glen Burnie, MD; Michael Elliott, Cumberland, MD; and Kathy Miller and husband, Dave, LaVale, MD; his grandchildren: Kayse Dunsmore and husband, Mike; Jennifer Childers and husband, Travis; Shannon Miller and wife, Jaffa; Aaron Miller and wife, Shannon; Chelsea and Hannah Elliott; and his great grandchildren: Zachary, Emily, Chaz, Logan, Elliott, Erin, and Josiah.

Friends were received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, on Sunday, September 8, 2013, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. A funeral service was conducted at the funeral home on Monday, September 9, 2013, at 11:00 A.M., with Jimmy Flanagan and Deacon Frank Werner officiating.
Interment was in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap. Military honors were accorded at the cemetery by the Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard.
