The 1810 census for Paris, Oneida NY is the last official date for Zachariah. There are however sheriff's reports in 1812 newspaper editions for that area stating that certain properties belonging to Zachariah were to be seized for nonpayment of taxes.

There are rumors that Zachariah served time in the NY State Prison system for forgery and counterfeiting. I have never been able to find solid proof of this. The NY prison records for the early 1800s are incomplete. After several inquiries to different NY agencies I was sent the only records available for a Mallett during that time frame. These records were for a Benjamin Mallett. I have determined that Benjamin was a nephew of Zachariah and son of Philo Mallett who moved from CT to Canajoharie, Montgomery County NY in the early 1800s. There is a B. Mallett listed on the 1810 census for Oneida County whose birth year matches that of Benjamin.

There was an item in the Little Falls NY Courier Journal that reported neighbors of Zachariah stating that he was sent to the NY state prison in 1812 for perjury. This seems to tie in with the newspaper items regarding seizure of some of his properties for nonpayment of taxes. My personal feeling is that this is probably accurate.

It is also a well known fact that Zachariah was the father of the infamous Rhoda Marie Mallett Loomis, mother of the notorious Loomis Gang. If anyone is interested in more information regarding this matter please contact me through my personal email address and I will be happy to give you the references that I have researched.

Utica NY courthouse records state that Silas Mallett was given a "Power of Attorney" in 1813 for his father Zachariah Mallett and mother Abigail Osborn Mallett. This is the last official record of Silas residing in Oneida County New York. It is also the last official record of Zachariah Mallett.
