Charles ‘‘Lou’’ Abate, 74, of Hayward, formerly of North East, Pa., and Jamestown, died Sunday (Feb. 3, 2002) in his home. He was born in Pennsylvania, a son of the late Joseph and Josephine Cuccia Abate. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Dolores Abate of Hayward, with whom he celebrated his 45th wedding anniversary; two daughters: Mary Maddox of Riverside, Calif., and Joann Staat of Pleasanton, Calif.; a son, Mark Abate of San Francisco; five grandchildren; and a brother, the Rev. Russell Abata of New York City. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Josephine Abata and Jean Wojtowicz; six brothers: Joseph, Anthony, Vincent, Frank, John and Sam Abata. Burial was in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
