ROBERTO "BOBBY" R. SIERRA, age 76, of Berino entered eternal life Friday, September 20, 2013 at his home. He was born November 15, 1936 in Chamberino to Francisco and Francisca Ramirez Sierra. "Bobby", as he was fondly known to family and friends, served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a man of many trades who enjoyed trucking and farming. Bobby was a member of the VFW Post # 4384 in Anthony and the Roman Catholic Church.
Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife of fifty-four years, Elva Carbajal Sierra of the family home; one son, Ricardo "Rick" C. Sierra and wife Ronnie of Berino; a daughter, Bobbie Jean Sierra and husband Masood "Asif" Awan of Huntington Beach, CA; three sisters, Emma Ramos and husband Beto of Doña Ana, Otilia Quintana and husband Elias of Albuquerque and Vangie Estrada and husband Jimmy of Las Cruces. Other survivors include eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Sierra in 2003 and a brother, Jimmy Sierra.
Visitation for Bobby will begin at 6 PM Friday, September 27, 2013 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 205 Concepcion Street in Berino where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 7 PM. Family and friends will join together to celebrate the Holy Mass of Resurrection at 10 AM Saturday, September 28, 2013 in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 224 Lincoln Avenue in Anthony with the Reverend Andres Alava officiating. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in the Anthony Catholic Cemetery where he will be laid to rest in the family plot. Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Navy Honor Guard and the Gadsden Memorial VFW Post # 4384.
Serving as casket bearers will be Jacob, Joshua, Vincent and David Sierra, Samir Awan and Patrick Provencio. Honorary bearers will be his niece, Priscilla Martinez and sister-in-law, Belia Provencio and the rest of his grandchildren.
