Richard A. Bogue, age 86, of Ida Grove, Iowa, died Thursday, September 26, 2013, at the Morningside Rehab & Care Center of Ida Grove, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 29, 2013, at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Holstein, Iowa. The Reverend Curtis E. Benson officiated, with burial at the Ida Grove Cemetery with military rites conducted by the McNamara-Moore Post No. 61 of the American Legion of Ida Grove, Iowa.

Richard A. Bogue was born December 15, 1926 in Clemons, Iowa to Arthur and Frances ( Lepley) Bogue of State Center. Raised on the farm Richard attended school and graduated from State Center High School in 1944. Immediately after graduating he joined the U.S. Navy Air Corps for Pre Flight Training. After the war was over he left the service to attend Coe College in Cedar Rapids to play football.

He decided he wanted to go into engineering and transferred to the University of Iowa, graduating in May of 1950 with his B.S. in Civil Engineering. While at college Richard met his sweetheart Alice Johnson of Manchester, Iowa. They were united in marriage on September 24, 1950 in Iowa City, Iowa. The couple was blessed with three children Linda, Suzie, and Mark.

Richard worked as a field engineer for Pittsburg-Des Moines Steel after graduation. Some of the earlier projects he was involved with include the Fort Randall Dam in South Dakota and the Glendo Dam in Wyoming. He eventually moved to Des Moines, Iowa and became the Bridge Sales Director. He worked for PDM from 1951 to 1969.

In 1969 he moved to Ida Grove, Iowa and started Hi-Way Products, Inc. to sell fabricated aluminum handrail for bridges. Over the years the business grew and so did the product line, including becoming one of the leading suppliers of highway safety products.

Richard helped in founding of Ida Grove Roofing, Hawkeye Fabrication, Inc. and was a founding stock holder and board chairman of First State Bank of Ida Grove.

Richard was a member of the University of Iowa Presidents club, a member of the ATO College Fraternity, acted as the President of the Horn Memorial Hospital Board, Country Club Board, McNamara- Moore Post No. 61 of the American Legion, and a Masonic Lodge member. He enjoyed Iowa Hawkeye Sports, Antiques, Traveling, Golf, and his grandchildren's activities. Richard for the past 35 years had earned the nickname "Bumba" by his granddaughter. He was extremely proud of his nine grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his three children; Linda (Gordie) Boerner of Coralville, IA, Suzie (Mark) Libbey of Minnetonka, MN, Mark (Jaclyn) Bogue of Ida Grove, IA,; Sister Virginia Van Metre of Marshalltown, IA; Nine Grandchildren Melissa (Joe) Adrian, Brett (Melissa) Boerner, Brittany Libbey, Gretchen(Asitha) Jayawardena, Chris Libbey, Nick Libbey, Jared ( Heather) Bogue, Alex Bogue, Taylor Bogue, Two Great Grandchildren; Kaleigh and Kieran Adrian, and Step Great Grandchildren Brandon and Tyler Pedersen.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, His loving wife Alice M. Bogue; Brother Warren Bogue; Two Sisters Betty Eland and Barbara Townsend, and infant son William.
