Minnie Jewel Herod Berry

GALVESTON - Mrs. Minnie Jewel Herod Berry passed away
Tuesday, March 9,1999, at University of Texas Medical Branch Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Berry was born near Craig, Colorado, lived in Galveston for almost 70 years, and was an active member of University Baptist Church. She was employed at American National Insurance Co. for more than 43 years, retiring in 1984, as executive secretary to company officials, including the company president.

She was an avid sports enthusiast and an outstanding
softball pitcher, advancing as far as the National Tournament. Her work with her church included continuous service as Sunday School teacher from the time she was a teenager; leader of Youth Department; Training Union Director; choir member and clerk of University Baptist Church and Galveston Baptist Association. She and Edmond
dedicated their lives to helping others. She was a member and officer of the American National Choir throughout its existence.

Mrs. Berry was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Eva Cox Herod; brother, Oscar Herod and sister, Mae
Bailey.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Edmond
D. Berry of Galveston; four sisters: Mrs. Mildred Trixnble of Burleson, Texas, Mrs. Bea Stelter of Pearland, Texas, Alice Silveria of Channelview, Texas and Florence Fiesta! of Tyler, Texas; and numerous nieces and
nephews
.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 10,1999, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at J. Levy and Bro. Funeral Home, 2128 Broadway, Galveston, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 11, 1999, at J. Levy & Bro. Funeral Home, with Dr. George R. Ramsey, Rev. Walter Silveria, the Rev. Virgil J. Sombito and the Rev. Leonard
Robison officiating.

Pallbearers will be Raymond McCleUan, Billy Legate, Robert Thorn, Phil Coffman, Clifford Salisbury and Roy DeFriese. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of the University Baptist Church. Entombment will follow
at Galveston Memorial Park, Hitchcock, Texas.
