She married Lon Kennard April 8 1940 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They met in Monticello, Utah where both were first year teachers.
A teacher and librarian in the Granite School District, she served as stake primary president for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for nineteenth years. A graduate of Jordan High School, Sandy, Utah, she majored in English and speech at Utah State University.
Her children, Lon Harvey (DeAnna) Kennard, Gary Smith (Joyce) Kennard, Beverly (Ed) Christy, Deborah (Gary) Martin, Paul (Diana) Kennard, 33 grandchildren, and 43 great grandchildren survive Irma. Predeceased by her husband, Lon, six brothers, four sisters, and a granddaughter, Julie Kennard.
