Ray Tipton, 78, of Corbin, Laurel Co., KY, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2012, with his wife, Joyce, at his side. Ray was born September 16, 1933, to Granville Tipton and Cora Ellis Tipton at the Pineville Hospital, Pineville, Bell Co., KY, and was raised at Blackstar, Harlan Co., KY. He graduated from Blackstar High School in 1951. He then spent four years in the U.S. Air Force attaining the rank of Sergeant. Ray graduated from Eastern State College, now Eastern Kentucky University, in 1959, and taught industrial arts at Harlan City High School, Harlan, Harlan Co., KY, for three years and at Corbin Independent Schools, Corbin, Whitley Co., KY, for 14 years. He retired from the Corbin Schools after serving as high school principal for 17 years.
Ray was a Christian and a member of First Baptist Church of Corbin, KY. He was a member of Don Robinson's Sunday School Class. He was an avid cattle farmer and a skilled carpenter. He was a 50-year member of Hugh Harris Lodge No. 938 F&AM, Corbin,KY, and a member of the Oleika Shrine Temple and a 32nd degree Shriner. He was also a Kentucky Colonel.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents: Granville Tipton and Cora Ellis Tipton; brothers: Carl Tipton, Glen Tipton and Homer Tipton; and a sister, Freda Tipton. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, James Edmond Wyatt, and Edith Marie Akers Wyatt.
Ray is survived by his wife of 52 years, Alma Joyce Wyatt Tipton, three children and their spouses: Wesley Ray Tipton,I and Mary Lynn Allender Tipton; Jeffery Ray Tipton and Debra Denise Hammons Tipton; and Kimberly Marie Tipton Morton and Steven Edward Morton, MD He is also survived by six grandchildren: Sarah Elizabeth Tipton, Wesley Ray Tipton II; Lauren Rae Tipton; Michael Ray Morton, Hannah Marie Morton and Jeffery Scott Morton.

Visitation: Noon until 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Hart Funeral Home, Corbin, Knox Co., KY

Funeral: 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 25, 2012, at the Hart Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Phil Majors and Bro. Don Robinson officiating.
