Kathy L. (Vest) Pierce, age 66, of Council Bluffs, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, after a long and courageous battle with MDS, a bone marrow disorder. She was a 22-year breast cancer survivor.
Kathy was born July 2, 1947, in Council Bluffs to the late Dale and Kay (Merkuris) Vest. She graduated Thomas Jefferson High School in 1965. Kathy worked for 28 years at Offutt Air Force Base and for the last 6 years as a medical transcriptionist for Ehrling Bergquist Clinic in Bellevue, NE. She was a member of First Christian Church and PALS.
In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by infant son, Brandon.
Kathy is survived by her loving daughter and caregiver, Trista Pierce; and brother, Randy Vest, both of Council Bluffs; daughter, Tara (Mike) Iskra of San Angelo, Texas; grandchildren, Ashley Springer of San Angelo, Texas, Brittany Rosser of Omaha, Dakota Krueger of Johnson City, Texas; four great grandchildren, McKenzie, Braeden, Brooklynn and Annabelle; ex-husband Al Pierce of San Angelo, Texas; aunt and uncle, June and Walter Murray of Irwin, Iowa; special friends, Kathy Kuhl, Nancy and Tom Boysen, The Jim Hayes Family, Jackie Griffith and her Women's Bible Study Group, all of Council Bluffs, Dianna and LeAnn Sherman, Claudia Chartrand, Tonya Reece and Joyce Musch all of Bellevue, Nebraska, Ida Copenhaver, Jennifer Merkuris and Grace Hagedorn, all of Omaha, Jann Strutzenberg of Treynor, Iowa and Bergan Mercy Medical Center's Oncology wing and 6 East caregivers; many cousins, friends and coworkers.
