Died of pneumonia in San Rafael at the age of 67 years. He had been an instructor in Mt. Tamalpais Academy for 11 years where he was known as Colonel Shakespeare, part of the time also teaching classes in the high school. A military funeral was held from the First Presbyterian Church on March 24th, the casket being taken on a caisson drawn by four horses and draped in the flag of his country. The escort consisted of academy cadets; a bugler sounded taps, and a firing squad of cadets fired a salute over the grave.
