Samuel Hawkins III

Louis Samuel Hawkins III, 17, of rural Shelbina, died Wednesday, July 24, 1996, at 4:30 p.m. at the University of Missouri Medical Center in Columbia as a result of an automobile accident on July 23.

He was born in Hannibal, Mo., on July 25, 1978, the son of Louis Samuel Hawkins, Jr. and Mary Lynn Schaefer Hawkins.

Survivors include his parents and a younger brother, Jay Hawkins of the home; his paternal grandmother, Pauline Hawkins of Shelbina; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Louis Samuel Hawkins and his maternal grandparents.

Mr. Hawkins was a member of the Prairie View Baptist Church. He was a member of the Marion County R-II School in Philadelphia. He was active in Boy Scouts and a member of the Nelsonville Saddle Club and the Jolly Green Giants 4-H Club. He was the NE Representative to the State 4-H Council. He excelled in horsemanship. Hawkins served as vice president and treasurer of his county 4-H club.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 27, at 2:00 p.m. at the Greening-Eagen-Hayes Chapel in Shelbina with Rev. Rodger Howell and Rev. David Rice officiateing. Burial was in the Prairie View Cemetery, northeast of Shelbina. Visitation was Friday evening.

The family has requested memorials be made to the Shelby County 4-H Foundation, c/o University of Missouri Extension Center, Shelbyville, Mo. 63469
