Jesse Max Owens passed away Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, in Dayton, Nev.

Max was born June 3, 1936, to Reed D. Owens and Nelda D. Montague. He attended school in Shelley and Idaho Falls.

In 1953, he enlisted in the Army. He served in Fort Bragg, N.C., and in Germany. He became a paratrooper and was very proud of his service. After his service, he returned to Idaho Falls.

He married LaRae Albertson in 1957. Max and LaRae had two children: a daughter, Kelley, and a son, Jesse Max Jr. He worked as a meat cutter for many years in Pocatello and California. LaRae passed away in January 1971.

He married Sherry Chastain on Aug. 1, 1971, in Reno, Nev. To this marriage was added five more children: Sherry, Terry, Tom, Chris and Scott. Max and Sherry lived in Sacramento and then moved to Calais, Maine. They moved to Dayton, Nev., in 2011.

Max was a friendly, outgoing man who enjoyed being with family and friends. He just enjoyed life very much. He was a devoted husband and family man.

Max was preceded in death by his parents, Reed and Nelda Owens; his wife, LaRae; and a son, Tom.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry of Dayton, Nev.; children, Kelley Owens (Alan Solis) of Shelley, Jesse Max Jr. (Shawna) of Shelley, Sherry, Terry, Chris and Scott, all of California; brothers, Monte (Janice) of Shelley, Blaine (Terry) of Idaho Falls and David (Kathy) of Idaho Falls; sister, Mary Gayle Jenkins (Ken Finnegan); and many cousins, nephews and nieces. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

At his request, there will be no services.
