MULLINS, SC - Kathryn Watson Dixon, 99, entered into eternal rest at home on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 with her surviving son, Walter Watson Dixon, at her bedside, supported by the prayers of all who knew and loved her. Her funeral service will be held on Friday, September 27, in Christ Prayer Chapel at Macedonia United Methodist Church, Mullins, with Rev. Kem Thomas officiating. Mrs. Dixon was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Elbert Dixon, and son, Thomas Edwin Dixon, as well as her much loved sister, Sallie Lou Watson of Trenton and brother, Walter Gamewell Watson of North Augusta. She was born in Ridge Spring to Edwin M. and Lula B. Watson. The family moved to Trenton, S.C., where she spent her formative years. After graduating Trenton High School, Mrs. Dixon matriculated to Winthrop College. Graduating from Winthrop College, she accepted a teaching post within the Mullins School District, where she taught physical education and coached women's basketball. After establishing her family, she continued teaching elementary school until she retired in 1982. Mrs. Dixon was a long-time member of Mace-donia United Methodist Church, where over the years, she taught in the Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, was a member of the Chancel Choir and assisted in various needs of that beloved faith community. A Service of Death and Resurrection will begin at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, September 27, at Christ Prayer Chapel of Macedonia United Methodist Church, followed by Interment in Cedardale Cemetery. The family will receive friends, immediately following the service, at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the "Kathryn Watson Dixon Educational Scholarship Fund" at Macedonia United Methodist Church, 402 N. Main St., Mullins, S.C. 29574. Cox-Collins Funeral Home is assisting the family of Mrs. Dixon.
