The Brauns came to Texas in 1879, when Lina was 3. They settled on a farm in McDade, Texas, where Lina lived until she married her husband, Wilhelm Menzer, in 1896.
Wilhelm and Lina had six children, one of whom died at an early age. In the early years of their marriage, they moved frequently, picking fruit in Oregon and operating a cafe in Tennessee before coming back to Texas. They farmed in Kaufman, Van Zandt, and Navarro Counties before settling in Falls County.
Lina played the harmonica and was a wonderful cook. She enjoyed working in the fields more than being inside and despite her small stature, she could pick more cotton than anyone else in her family. Her granddaughter remembers her as "the sweetest person I ever knew".
Lina died on January 19, 1968 in Lubbock, Texas.
