He was born in Chattahoochee, FL, January 29, 1930 to the late Johnie M. Smith Sr. and Elizabeth Reynolds Smith.
Johnie was the owner operator of the Shell service station on the corner of Remount Road and Rivers Avenue for 18 years. He also owned Smith Towing and Transport and the Bizzie Bee Social Club on Highway 78 in North Charleston.
Mr. Smith served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and saw service at the battle of Midway, and during in the Korean War.
He was an avid fisherman and also loved farming and riding his tractor, and was also a bee keeper.
Johnie was a Shriner, member of the Scottish Rite, and a member of Hammerton Masonic Lodge #332.
He loved his family and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife: Betty Reynolds Smith of North Charleston; daughters: Sandra Pace (Mac) of Charleston (West Ashley), and Glenda Smith (Tony) of North Charleston; grandchildren: Sean Gruber, Erin Dillon, Meghan Smith, London Dillon, and Michael Dillon; two great-grandchildren; son-in-law: Pat Dillon; sister: Lille Brogdan of North Charleston; brother: Hovey Smith of Chattahoochee, FL.
He was preceded in death by his daughter: Pamela Dillon, and his sister, Gracie McCall.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, September 28, 2013, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with interment following in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, September 27th, at the funeral home.
