Marilyn was born September 23, 1927 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the first child of Evan Walters and Ethel Mae Allen.
Mom grew up and attended schools in Park City, Utah. At the age of sixteen, she left school during the war and went to work at Tooele Army Depot.
After that, she worked in several jobs, waitressing, cooking (which she loved the most), printing, and finally settling for a supervisory position in the printing department, with the State of Utah, which she retired from after twenty years.
Mom loved bowling, especially with her sisters on Tuesday nights at Fairmont, and on Fridays with her husband and friends at Delton Lanes.
But, her favorite thing to do was to be in the kitchen cooking up fabulous meals, baking bread, and bottling all kinds of pickles for family, friends, strangers, you name it, everyone knew about mom's kitchen.
Mom met and later married the love of her life, Dorian Ray Bowen, on October 10, 1959. They made their home in Hunter, Utah and together raised three children, Lynne, Rick, and Rod, that she had previously. Ray also had three children, Donald, Linda, and Ken, who were also loved as her own.
She is survived by her husband, Ray, of Manila; daughter, Lynne (Sherman) Smith, Kearns, Utah; son, Rick (Pat) Summers, Washam, Wyoming; Rod Bowen, Manila, Utah; Donald (Cathy) Bowen, Hazel Park, Michigan; Linda (Chuck) Piekkola, Lynnwood, Washington; and Ken (Patsy) Bowen, Camano Island, Washington. Also fifteen grand, twenty-five great-grand, and three great-great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by sisters, Janice (Robert) Jenkins, Kearns, Utah; and Myrna Mathews, Westminster, Colorado. Preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Carole and Donna; brother, Raymond; and grandson, Shane.
In respect to Mom's final wishes, there will be no viewing or memorial service.
Dedication and interment will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, (Beaumont Garden), 3401 South Highland Drive (1495 East), East Millcreek, Utah.
