Rod was born October 8, 1940 in Des Moines to Rodney H. Henderson and Esther L. (Nelson) Henderson. He lived in Des Moines all his life and attended East High School. In December of 1957 he married his wife of 56 years, Brenda (Kaiser). He did a brief stint in the Air Force in 1958. He spent time working in construction in the Kansas City area with family members before returning to Des Moines and working for the City of Des Moines, where he retired after 32 years of service due to disability related to his chronic health conditions.
Rod is survived by his wife, Brenda; daughter, Gayle (Mike) Murray; and four grandsons that he treasured, Collan (Ames), Caleb, Cobey and Carson, all of Des Moines; his three brothers, Everette (Twila) Henderson, John Henderson and Bob (Barbara) Henderson, all of Des Moines; and several nieces, nephews and cousins (Des Moines and Texas). He was preceded in death by his parents, Rodney and Esther Henderson and sister-in-law, Carol Henderson.
