Maxine Nichols passed away Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, in Grapevine. Service: 10 a.m. Tuesday in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Duke University School of Nursing.

Maxine was born April 9, 1936, to Jesse Dee and Madeline Smith in Roanoke, Va. She graduated from Duke University School of Nursing and pursued the nursing field until she retired as a nursing director at Kaiser Permanente in Santa Clara, Calif.

She married the love of her life, Larry, on June 10, 1956. Maxine was an avid reader; she especially loved books by Danielle Steele, John Grisham and James Patterson. She was a loving grandmother and raised two of her grandkids.

Maxine and Larry were members of White Chapel United Methodist Church in Southlake.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Madeline Smith.

Survivors: Husband, Larry Nichols; sons, Alan Dale Nichols, James David Nichols and Keith Brandon Nichols; daughters, Elizabeth Ann Nichols-Gollaher and Karen Brandon Nichols; and grandchildren, Joseph Ryan Nichols, Sara Ashley Nichols, Devin Mitchell Reed, James Tyler Reed, Travis Christian Webb and Brandon Carter Webb.
