Elijah was the son of John Seymour III buried in New Hartford, Connecticut, and of Hannah Ensign Seymour, also buried there. See links below.

He was an officer in the Light Dragoons in the Revolutionary War serving in Connecticut. He served first with Captain Seth Smith, part of Major Sheldon's Regiment of Light Horse in response to the Lexington alarm. He then served under his brother in Captain Uriah Seymour's Company. (Note: Elijah Seymour is listed in the DAR records.)

He moved to New Hartford, N.Y. about 1791 then to Marcellus, New York and finally Skaneateles. He made saddles and holsters for soldiers but unfortunately was paid in worthless Continental money.
His first wife was Asenath Hurlbut, born July 19, 1742. She was the daughter of Dr. Josiah and Susanna Lee Hurlbut (or Hurlburt). Josiah was born October 10, 1704 in Farmington and Susanna was born about 1708 in Wethersfield, Ct. She married Elijah in January 1767 in Hartford , Connecticut in the First Congregational Church officiated by the Rev. Jonathan Marsh. They had no children. She died in 1768.

He married Abigail Chapin(1750-1777)-, as his second wife, on March 1, 1770 in Hartford, Ct. The service was officiated by the Rev. Jonathan Marsh in the First Congregational Church. She was the daughter of David Chapin and Martha Allen. Their only child, Nathaniel Seymour, was born on March 21, 1777. Abigail probably died in childbirth. Nathaniel is buried in Bethel Cemetery, in Hannibal, Oswego County, New York. His memorial is #77719484. Nathaniel married Lindey Gillet, who is buried in the Seymour Farm Cemetery near Marcellus, N.Y. We believe that Nathaniel died in Hannibal, some distance away from his home in Marcellus and where his wife was buried,as he was either on an extended visit to his sister, Laura Sprague or was seeking medical care from his brother-in-law, Dr. Philetus Sprague. The Spragues were residing in Hannibal at that time.

Elijah married Mary Marsh, shortly after the death of his second wife. He married Mary on July 3, 1777 in New Hartford as his third wife and had eight children. Mary outlived Elijah by many years and is buried in Skaneateles in Lakeview Cem. See link for wife Mary Marsh for listing of their children.

Elijah's family tree goes as follows:

His father----John Seymour III
His father----John Seymour II
His father----John Seymour I
His father----Richard Seymour (THE IMMIGRANT)
