FITCHBURG – David W. Croft, age 72, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg with his family at his side after recently being told he had cancer.

He was born on July 12, 1940, in Madison, the son of Walter and Margaret (Maloney) Croft. David attended school in Waupun after the family moved to Fox Lake while he was still young. He and a few friends even started the Fox Lake Water Ski and Boating Club there on the lake in the 1950s. David started working at the State of Wisconsin at age 18, after graduating from high school. He worked at the Department of natural Resources all of his 40 years of state service. During this time, he resided in Woodruff and the Madison area. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing and was involved with the Madison Chapter of Fishing Has No boundaries. David was a very talented man who could fix almost anything and was an awesome carpenter. He crafted beautiful wooden items for his family and friends as well as donating them to many organizations. David also enjoyed trap shooting and competed in many Badger State Games. He enjoyed photography and took pictures wherever he went. David and his family and friends also shot the 4th of July firework shows for Fitchburg, Verona and Westmorland for many years. David was a very social person and made friends wherever he went. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him. We will miss his witty humor and storytelling as he had a mind like a steel trap, never forgetting a detail.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and brother, Robert.

Please join us for a Celebration of David's Life at the Madison Labor Temple Lounge, 1602 South Park Street, Madison from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2013. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Madison Chapter of Fishing Has No Boundaries, Agrace Hospice Care in Fitchburg or Olbrich Gardens of which he was also a member. The family would like to thank the staff at 8 Tower Immediate Care Unit at Meriter hospital along with Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. They are awesome people who took terrific care of David.
