From the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Friday, July 5, 1968, page 1:
The body of Robert Elberson, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert F. Elberson of 700 Yale Ave., Edwardsville, was located by Montana authorities in the Joeko River Thursday night.
Mr. Elberson had been missing since June 25 when he was last seen by his wife, the former Donna Richardson of Belleville, while they were on an outing near Twin Lakes in the Mission Mountains.
The area where Mr. Elberson had last been seen was described as very rough and the river high and swift. He had been mountain climbing and reportedly attempted to cross the river on his way home.
Authorities found a rope tied across the river where he had apparently attempted to pull himself across the current hand over hand. His pack and camera equipment were found downstream from the rope shortly after the search operation began.
Mr. Elberson and his wife had been in Montana at the Flathead Indian Reservation where he was serving his missionary internship at the St. Ignatius Christian Church, Ignatius.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Friendship Church of Christ in Tamoroa, Ill., where he served for two years as minister.
Mr. Elberson had completed three years at the St. Louis Christian College in Florissant, Mo. He was graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1965.
Besides his wife, Mr. Elberson is survived by his parents and a brother, William, of St. Louis.
  There will be no visitation.
The family requests that no flowers be given. Donations will be accepted for the Library Fund at the St. Louis Christian College.
