Wilhelm Bayer was born on January 17, 1878 the 3rd child of Konstantin Bayer and Wilhelmina Klaus. The family lived in the village of Strzegowo, in Mlawa County (powiat), Poland. Although the family lived in Poland, they were of German descent.

On July 19, 1905, he emigrated to the United States (through the port of Baltimore, MD), following several of his sisters and brothers. His father Konstantin died the following year - 1906. His mother Wilhelmine, along with Wilhelm's 2 youngest siblings, emigrated to the US in 1908. All of the Bayer siblings re-started their lives in America in Cleveland, Ohio - although some eventually moved to other parts of Ohio, or, in the case of Wilhelm's oldest sister Amelia, to California.

A year later, on July 15, 1906, Wilhelm married Amanda Radzyminska - another German immigrant from the Strzegowo area of Poland. She had arrived in the US on April 2, 1906, so apparently they knew each other from back in Poland. Together they had 3 children:

1907 - Emelia
1908 - Rudolph
1914 - Olga

Sometime between the births of Rudolph and Olga, Wilhelm and Amanda moved slightly west from Cleveland to Amherst, Ohio (in Lorain County).

Wilhelm worked as a farmer, as well as for Ohio Cut Stone. He died at the age of 83 on August 23, 1961. Wife Amanda died at the age of 95 in 1983.
