Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Donald E. Creech, 78, will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 26, 2013 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post #26. Visitation will be today from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport where a Prayer Service will be offered at 7:00 p.m. to conclude visitation.
Donald died Monday, September 23, 2013, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Donald Eugene Creech was born December 10, 1934 in Washington, Ia., the son of Veronica (Ryan) and Francis Creech. He graduated from Washington High School in 1952. Donald proudly served his country in the Air Force obtaining the rank of Sgt. 1st Class. Donald was united in marriage to his childhood sweetheart, Diana Schulty, on February 11, 1956 at St. James Catholic Church in Washington, Ia. He retired in 1992 as Supervisor with the Rock Island Post Office. Donald was a skilled woodworker and renowned collector however nothing brought him as much pride and joy as his family, especially his grandchildren who are all so grateful for the unconditional love and support they received from Papa.
Donald was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Davenport, where he served as an altar server and usher. He was a member of the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home Pall Bearer Club, National Rifle Association, and the Iowa Archaeological Society.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church.
Survivors include his beloved wife Diana, daughters Donna (Christopher) Connors, Davenport and Diane (Joseph) Barroso, LeClaire, Ia., a son Dean (Beatrice) Creech, Buffalo, Ia., grandchildren Michael (Jill) Connors, Meghan (Kyle) Helm, Ethan Connors and his fiancée Sarah Blevins, Liza Barroso, and triplets Derek, Dylan and Caitlyn Creech, a sister Helen Ghys, Davenport and a brother John Creech, Missoula, Mt. and several loving nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, a son Daniel Creech, a brother Richard Creech, and brothers-in-law Alfred Conner and Daniel Ghys. May they rest in peace.
